The life of Roosevelt Elliot Perkins Sr. I had the pleasure of doing a feature story on this man, and one of the most profound people I have met. Blind, but always thinking of others and moving forward, Perkins has devoted his life to helping others. He may not have vision, but he can clearly see.
Perkins plays the “Gut Bucket,” which is a homemade bass made out of a galvanized washtub, string and sometimes, but not in this case, a broom handle. Though, when Perkins was growing up in rural North Carolina as a child, he did play the gut bucket with a broom handle.
Perkins uses a stylus to write in brail.
