Making Marines: The Prelude

Dan and I were invited back to document a mini boot camp the U.S. Marine Corps holds for “poolees,” those who have enlisted but not yet shipped off to boot camp, and for those interested in seeing what it is like. The purpose is to give an experience of boot camp to help prepare, or weed out, recruits that wouldn’t survive boot camp. It was a three-day-long experience with a lot of physical training.

DIs get in the face of the future recruits.

Physical training is a huge aspect of the mini boot camp. If they can keep up during the weekend they will be much better prepared for the real thing.

Poolees had to do many strenuous activities to help build a sense of team.
